Recipe Boxes

Recipe boxes organize recipes into collections. On My Recipes, open the menu and choose Add a Recipe Box to create one. Use Manage Recipe Box to update a box you already use.

Select a recipe box before adding or browsing recipes so the list shows the collection you intend to work with.

New recipe boxes are private. From Manage Recipe Box, an owner can add an existing Cookery Trove user by exact email address. Shared boxes are available only to the owner and explicitly added members. Version 1.0 does not include public recipe discovery.

Add a Recipe

Use the add button on My Recipes and choose one of these options:

Create from Scratch to enter the recipe yourself.
Import Recipe to begin an import from a recipe source.

When creating or editing a recipe, add the recipe information, ingredients, directions, categories, notes, and picture that are useful to you. Save the recipe when you are finished.

Open and Edit a Recipe

Select a recipe from the recipe list to view its details. From the detail view, use the edit action to update recipe information or its supporting sections.

Scale a Recipe

On Recipe Detail, use the multiplier below the recipe image to choose ½×, 1×, 2×, or 3×. The selected multiplier updates the Serves or Makes amount, ingredient quantities, and estimated recipe cost together. 1× returns to the quantities saved with the recipe.

Scaling does not change the saved recipe. It applies while you view or cook that recipe, and it is also used when you open the shopping-cart action to add the displayed quantities to a shopping list.

Cooking time, temperature, pan size, and directions do not automatically scale. Review those details before cooking. Amounts such as “to taste” or other quantities that cannot be interpreted safely may remain unchanged.

Ingredient Costs and Recipe Cost Estimates

Cookery Trove estimates recipe cost from the purchase prices you save for ingredients. Open the menu on My Recipes and choose Manage Ingredients. Select an ingredient to review its purchase costs, or use the add action to enter a new ingredient cost. Enter the package price, package quantity, and package unit. Brand and store are optional.

An ingredient can have more than one purchase cost. Mark the price you want Cookery Trove to use for recipe calculations as Preferred. You can edit, delete, or change the preferred purchase cost from the ingredient's details.

If the recipe and package use different kinds of measurements, open Recipe conversion while editing the ingredient cost. An equivalent quantity can connect measurements such as package weight and recipe cups. For ingredients written without a measurement, turn on Unitless recipe amounts are items only when the recipe quantity represents a count, such as eight egg whites.

On Recipe Detail, each ingredient shows its calculated contribution when enough pricing and measurement information is available. Needs price means that Cookery Trove cannot currently calculate that ingredient; open the recipe cost details to see whether it needs a purchase price, a usable recipe quantity, or a compatible conversion.

The summary below the serving controls uses these labels:

Estimated recipe cost means every listed ingredient was calculated.
Partial estimate is only the total of ingredients Cookery Trove could calculate. The remaining ingredient count is shown, so the amount should not be treated as the complete recipe cost.
Recipe cost unavailable or Calculating recipe cost means costing data is not ready to display.

Tap the summary row to open the full breakdown. From the breakdown, use Fix when it is offered to add or correct an ingredient cost. A calculated $0.00 is different from Needs price: zero is a known calculated value, while Needs price is missing or incompatible data.

Recipe costs are estimates based on the portion of each purchased package used by the recipe, not the amount charged when buying whole packages. Selecting a different recipe multiplier recalculates the serving count, ingredient quantities, per-ingredient costs, and recipe estimate together.

Cook with a Recipe

Open a recipe and choose Start cooking mode from the recipe detail app bar. Cooking mode keeps the screen awake when the device supports it and provides larger, focused views for ingredients and directions.

On Ingredients, check off ingredients as you use them.
On Steps, use the previous and next controls to move through the recipe. The progress indicator shows the current step and how many remain.
Choose All steps when you need to scan the complete direction list.
Choose Finish cooking to leave cooking mode.

Cooking progress is temporary. It remains available while the active cooking session is open, including normal recipe-detail rebuilds, but it is not saved to your account or restored after restarting the app. Finishing cooking mode clears checked ingredients and step progress so the next session starts fresh.

Favorites

Recipes can be marked as favorites. Favorites are available from the Home experience for quicker access.

Add Recipe Ingredients to a Shopping List

Open a recipe and choose the shopping-cart action in the recipe detail app bar. The review dialog lets you:

Choose one of your shopping lists.
Confirm the recipe multiplier shown in the dialog. To change it, close the dialog and select ½×, 1×, 2×, or 3× on Recipe Detail before reopening the shopping-cart action.
Review the scaled ingredients and clear any ingredient you do not want to add.
Choose Add selected.

If an ingredient already exists on the selected list with the same measurement, Cookery Trove increases its quantity instead of adding a duplicate. Ingredients without an aisle mapping are added as Unassigned so you can map them from the Shopping List screen.

Some recipe quantities require manual entry. The review disables an ingredient when its quantity is missing, is not numeric, would require fractional rounding, or conflicts with an existing item that uses a different measurement. The reason appears beneath that ingredient; add it manually from the Shopping List screen if needed.

Export a Recipe Box

From My Recipes, open the menu and choose Export Recipe Box. The export dialog shows the active recipe box name and the number of recipes that will be included.

Choose a template:

Starter Classic creates a designed recipe-box PDF with a cover page, clickable table of contents, and recipe pages.
Plain PDF uses the original simple PDF layout.

Use Include recipe images to decide whether recipe photos should be added when available. Choose Share PDF to create and share the file, or Print to send it to a printer.
